Learning through interactive games provides many benefits to children with special needs. Research has shown that games are excellent adaptive learning tools that allow for an individualized learning experience. Many children, including both gifted and those with learning disabilities, excel when they can progress at their own pace. Some will find one topic easy to master and another harder, while others may have the opposite experience. With adaptive learning through games each child can master information at the right speed. Interactive games present a series of challenges to players, and do not let players progress until they've mastered a specific skill. For example, one cannot move on to higher levels of a game without successfully completing lower levels. When games are designed with specific learning goals, this means that players must learn the material as it is presented before tackling harder material. It also means that players who master earlier levels faster are not held back by other players and can complete more levels within the same amount of time. Games can also help children develop the ability to set goals, prioritize tasks and memorize complex steps in a process. Research shows that gains made in a game translate into real life gains in the same areas. For example, for children with ADHD, interactive games may be valuable opportunities for improving these skills TJ & Pals games are designed with the needs of the individual child in mind. With both easy and hard levels available, players at different skill levels can enjoy different challenges in the same game. This allows all children to learn as they play the TJ & Pals games and apps. |
